10th March Breakaways

I probably have the date wrong but I missed at least one meeting's worth of photos. So am trying to catch up!

These are all Kim's

Lesley's bag with some nifty ends on the ties

Libby's quilt - note the piping!

Linda with her finished quilt - it's massive and it's gorgeous!

Breakaways 3rd March 2010

DS4 offered to help me carry my machine etc out to the car for this evening’s meeting.  So of course I forgot to go back and get my camera, which was a great shame because…..

Jane had brought her finished Dresden Plate top to layer up, which we duly did – twice LOL (background fabric had moved the first time); Christine was beavering away with her blocks and Lesley had some small things.  Kim had nearly finished her Red Delicious and it looks as lovely on the back as the front.  Mind you, it’s probably just as well I couldn’t take any pictures as I was so tired I was in fumble mode and managed to knock over a glass of water – thankfully it just made a puddle rather than actually land on anything.

Hopefully I will be able to get some pictures next week, though we will be short a few members…….

Update -

Well it turns out that Lesley was able to take some pics which she has sent to me – thank you Lesley!

Regional day at Selsey (Region 2)

Four of the Breakaways made our collective way to Selsey where Region 2 were holding their regional day.

Traders (bought some fabric, naughty) and some beads I didn’t need, demonstrations, coffee, tea and cake, a raffle, demonstrators and two excellent speakers – Christine Porter  whose new talk was similar to the one we had heard at Meon Valley Quilters, but nonetheless enjoyable, and Gwenfai Rees Griffiths who doesn’t seem to have a website or an up to date blog.  I didn’t take any pictures, should have done really – beautiful quilts from both ladies and if you Google the latter on Google Images you will see some pics of these gorgeous quilts, many of which are handquilted with teeny stitches.

I had the pleasure of meeting Patricia McLaughlin who is teaching Libby to make exquisite quilts, and makes gorgeous, meticulously made quilt art herself.  She does courses and is quite heavily booked up but I would advise taking the beginner’s course first, perhaps, to get a thorough grounding in Patricia’s techniques.  I wish I could go but work gets in the way; I think ChrisJ is hoping to take a course, though – it would be right up her alley.  And if you think you don’t need a beginner’s course, well perhaps you might discuss it with Patricia first.  I have been making quilts a long time but am pretty slapdash and that is the place I would have to start – everyone is a beginner somewhere, right?

I thoroughly enjoyed my day out. Many thanks to the organisers!

Joseph’s Coat

image This is a pattern I am itching to make but  sadly I have lots of other projects ahead of it.

Don't Look Now is the name of the blog and the owner is Australian as far as I can gather.  Nice read.

There is a tutorial for the pattern which starts here  http://dontlooknow.typepad.com/dont_look_now/josephs-coat-quilt-along-.html

Breakaways 24th February

Sorry for very late posting as another meeting is almost upon us.  Time is flying by and in very short supply , for my part.

Chris's Pyramids are growing first off, Chris’s pyramids are growing and looking miles better than they do in this pic – something to do with the colour in my camera I think.

Norma& her pyramids Norma’s pyramids are also coming along nicely.  Her colour scheme is less controlled than Chris’s but I really would not be able to make up my mind which I prefer – I am always open to bribery of course, especially if it involves wine or chocolate…….

Jane's latest Jane’s latest picture on her new machine.  I saw a pebbly beach, with groynes and dried sea foam etc but most others saw viaducts and bridges etc.  Anyway, I do like the pic and the buyer can make up his or her own mind.  I’ve just had a sewing machine serviced or it might have been me.

Lesley's pincushion needs stuffing Lesley’s pincushion is done except for the stuffing.  It is so weeny, but very nice :)

Libby's disappearing 9 patch Libby’s disappearing 9-patch which she brought along for someone to have a look at.  She brought her Stars quilt along to quilt by hand Libby handquilting her stars  and also all the blocks (which I missed seeing the week I was away) she has been doing with Patricia McLaughlin:- Libby - 1 Libby 2Libby 3 Libby 4Striking log cabin block  this log cabin is Lesley’s and the next is a sneaky pic of the block Pauline was makingPauline's blocks

To finish off - and I expect Lesley’s daughter in NZ has been impatiently waiting for this – Lesley’s Stars quilt :-Lesley's stars Lesley's stars - middle (middle section) Lesley's stars - border w piping (border with piping)Lesley's stars corners (corner treatment)Lesleys' quilting on the back and the quilting pattern as seen on the back.

As for myself, I am still putting half square triangles together and have a few more rows to do.  Then I’ll be able to see whether they will fit together and whether the pattern is correct……
